Gloucester Tree.. this is what I had to climb !
Left Augusta and headed east. The drive today was all through state forests and national parks.. it was a luv a tree day ! Stopped at Gloucester Tree in Pemberton .. a famous 58 meter high Karri tree (was a fire lookout tree back in the day) that you can climb. I was a bit nervous but just went for it. Steve chickened out! I climbed 153 spikes hammered into the trunk that spiral from the tree to arrive at a platform at the top to take in the awesome views. Did I mention 58 meters !!! My legs were jelly by the time I got back to terrafirma!
We then drove to Walpole to see the Valley of the Giants .. a tree top walk on a suspended walkway 40 mtrs up..(pffft only 40 meters!) And then a walk through the "Ancient Forest" with 400 year old trees.. noice!
We continued the drive to a free camp at Cosy Corner just before Albany. It was beside a beach but the weather was be worst yet .. so windy n lashed down all night!
The start !
