8/3/18 - Day 40 - Happy Women’s Day (sorry for p’ing off any non-binary’s out there but hey I don’t make the rules)
Encouraged J to set the alarm for 5-45 again for yoga, him along with one of our fellow hotel guests and the hotel owner all decided to join in a free yoga session being run on the beach by Dan from Nomad Yoga at 6.30, it was free in aid of Women’s Day, yay go Nomad! What a view... Not sure J is totally hooked yet, it may be a slow burn... we’re still in Hoi An but travelling to Cambodia later today. After packing up and reading up about Cambodia, popped over to visit the lovely Houang at the Vina Beach Villa, she had bought J and I presents. When we arrived they were doing a lunch spread for their guests and insisted that we stayed and joined in. It was fab but got savaged by mosquitos, I have 9 bites on my arse alone, I’m going to feel it tomorrow....went back to our hotel via moped just in time for our taxi arriving. Dropped at Da Nang and then the fun starts...landed safe after a fairly crappy flight with Laos Air, getting through Siem Reap airport was also a bit hellish, having to queue up with millions of Chinese whilst waiting for our visas. Needless to say I had to sharpen my elbows because they love to push in. Then got stuck with the most miserable and slow immigration officer, but once finally through the madness we were met outside of the airport by our tuk tuk driver Clay. Whisked back to our lovely hotel
9/3/18 - Day 41
After a bit of a lie in and breakfast we headed off with Clay to start our three days of exploration around the temples of Angkor Wat, determined to follow advice that we’d been given by Sima & Rod and the guide book, we started at the end of the large circuit, so this then means that you don’t see Angkor Wat and Bayron (Angkor Thom) until the last of the three days. We’re going to spread out the days a bit so we can chill out at the hotel too. Nothing can prepare you for the size and scale of the temples, they are incredible, we visited;
- Pre Rup - one of the smaller temples
- East Mebon - allegedly another small temple
- Ta Som - has water all around, you have to cross a moat to get to it, it’s a small temple floating in the middle of a lake
- Neak Pena
- Preah Khan
- Ta Keo (lots of conservation being funded by the Chinese right now, no space for photo’s of this one but its not a patch on the others. My favourite of the day was Preah Khan.
Got back to our hotel around 5.30, completely templed-out. Going to head downtown SR tonight.. ate at Marum but both shattered and in bed by 9.30, such lightweights!
