Banff

Canada
Into the Rockies we go
Tuesday we had a bonus day in the Rockies for James to have his last day for a while, snowboarding in the powder of Canada. He drove us to Banff, dropped us off then went to Sunshine while we explored the town for the day. We walked around the river edge to Bow Falls, just thawing now, then in to the enormous Banff Springs Hotel for a snack by the window. This place looks like a Scottish castle overlooking a frozen golf course. Back to town we visited the Whyte Museum with it's history of the region & wandered around the shops, chatting with the friendly locals & finding a few souvenirs just like the tourists we are. Late afternoon James picked us up again & we went further into the snow to Chateau Lake Louise for a special birthday dinner. Lake Louise is even more beautiful than I remember in the winter & it truly was like being in a Christmas card with deep snow underfoot, on the trees & across the frozen lake. Being there was such a delight I possibly behaved like a excited little kid - it was such fun. Dinner was a delicious fondue in the window with views across the lake - perfection - thanks for the idea & taking us there James MacDonald Herring.
