Week 1

Day 1 - 26/1/18

Made it to Bangkok safe and well, sadly upgrade fairies weren’t working but our seats were ok anyway, we picked a good spot not near to loos, toilets or galley!

We’re staying in a very ‘locals’ part of Bangkok on the waterways, it’s very non touristy. We wandered around and found the most amazing temple (see photos). Finding dinner was a challenge, but heck it’s not like we’re cavemen having to go out and catch and kill our food... but being such a locals place there are no tourist restaurants. Eventually found dinner with Mr Karaoke man (see video) and it cost around 100 thb for both of us, about £2. It certainly wasn’t fine dining but no unexpected toilet trips yet!!

Anyway, we were both wide awake at 2.30am, we went to bed early as we’d not slept much the night before and I woke up feeling like I’d been asleep for ages.... it’ll take a while I guess.

Day 2 - 27/1/18

We both slept quite well from 10 until 1.15 anyway, then woke up feeling like it was time to go for breakfast, only to discover it was still the middle of the might! After using a couple of on-line meditations we both must have drifted off. Really struggled when the alarm went off at 8, went for breakfast at 9 which consisted of mini hotdog sausages (which we used to feed the fish with) and two croissants and a fried egg, not quite the fresh, wholesome breakfast experience that I was looking forward to, but it was ok and the lady of Bangluang House is very friendly and helpful. Took a boat trip around the waterways.

Day 3 - 28/1/18

Survived the night and now the next adventure begins... breakfast was slightly better... fresh pineapple and egg sandwich (separately of course!!). Re-packed my rucksack which seems to have miraculously expanded and caught taxi to the airport, fortunately the travel fairies were smiling down on me because I remembered to ask J whilst we were in the taxi which airport we needed, which turned out to be different to the one we arrived at... so we got the taxi to take us the right airport, Don Mueang Airport, taxi was 430 bht (£10).

Now waiting to board a flight to Chiang Mai!! Sitting in Starbucks... yes, I know, I’ve caved into Western ways again, drinking my skinny, decaf Americano (why bother I hear you asking?). Flight was with Nok Airways to CM, left later than expected but only an hour and 10 min flight and as you come out of the airport there are loads of taxis into CM old town where we were staying, only 150bht (£3.36!). Staying at the Wealth Boutique Hotel which is very nice, here for 4 nights (£50 per night for two) so plenty of time to chill and see the sights in CM. J needs it as he’s still really poorly. If he’s up to it, we’ll start with the night market tonight.

Off to do some yoga by the Pool...and breathe....
Eclectic collection of stuff in our hotel room
Lovely temple a stone’s throw from our digs
