Chiang Mai

Thailand, 28. January 2018
Day 3 - 28/1/18 Chiang Mai

Arrived in CM, hotel good! Went to the night market, which was a bit bonkers and ate street food and then found somewhere to sit down and finally tried a Thai green curry on the way home. Found a John Stewart look-a-like....although the guy in the photo is with his boyfriend (I didn’t tell John that, but sent him the photo anyway).

Day 4 - 29/1/18

* Morning yoga by the pool
* Scrummy breakfast - fresh water melon, pineapple
* Walked around the old town, popped into one of the food markets and then onto visit Wat Pra Singh, meant to be the best temple in CM and I think it probably is!
* Yin yoga session in my hotel room (with some American on YouTube called Travis, J found this hysterical and annoying)
* Went to Andara night market, also hectic
* Then ate tom yum soup, morning glory (cross between spinach and broccoli, although it conjures up other possibilities!) and squid with Thai basil.... lovely and v reasonable 550 bht

Day 5 - 30/1/18

Really tired today, woke up just before 10 and managed to get to breakfast just before they shut....Still v yummy. Decided to take it easy today by the pool as J still not well. Have read and messed about on Pinterest (v frustrating), went for lunch in the street opposite, found a local Thai food place, no idea what it was called but delicious food (we had rice with morning glory plus a fish curry and an egg and pork curry) v reasonable at 180 bht. Wandered back to the hotel to crash out by the pool and bought a pair of trousers from the shop over the road for 150 bht. Started reading “The Radleys” a book which J picked up at the airport, had a craving to read a real book. Planning to do yoga at The Blue Garden tonight at 7pm then we’ll go out for a snack and hopefully get an early night so we both feel better tomorrow (as we’re at Thai cooking school tomorrow).

Photo’s of temple opposite yoga school, which has it’s own resident dog ‘Capo’, well of course I had a cuddle but don’t tell Meg!

Day 6 - 31/1/18

Up nice and early as we were being collected for our Thai cookery class... they picked us up around 9, took us to one of the local markets....bought some super lightweight herbal tea to try as decaf tea and coffee is non-existent.

Back at the Cookery school (Basil Cookery School) we opted to make six dishes each, these are only a few that I can remember;

- Pad Thai
- Thai Green Curry
- Tom Yum soup
- Chicken coconut soup
- Papaya Salad
- Penang Curry
- Spring Rolls
- Coconut sticky rice with Mango
- Blackrice with coconut

All really delicious and our teacher ‘Rose Apple’ (real name Champoo) was brilliant she kept up the pace and was very funny too, a great experience. Lots of food to try so won’t be eating dinner tonight....

Dropped back at our hotel around 3.30 so time for a snooze before yoga tonight.

After a lovely yoga class, popped out to an restaurant bar (Dash?) which had a great outdoor terrace from which we sat and watched the blood red full moon eclipse, very auspicious apparently....J got chatting to an Irish lady on the table next to us and she turned out to be a food critic / writer, for the Irish Times, an interesting lady.
