9/2/18 - Travelling to Inle Lake (Nyuang Shwe)

Journey to Inle took much longer than anticipated, due to traffic and road construction we got to Kawal at 3pm and Inle is 1,5 hrs further on. The shared bus was fairly torturous! When you arrive into Inle you have you pay 13,500 kyat (£6) which is valid for a 5 day stay in Inle. Fortunately J took more money out last night. Eventually got to our hotel at around 5, at least the bus dropped us right there.

The hotel is fabulous, just outside the main drag. We were upgraded to the Family suite... which was superb, lots of space for yoga. Really friendly and welcoming staff, the Manager, Kytao also speaks really great English.


10th to 14th Feb

We did so much....here’s a summary:

* night market
* cycled around Nyaung Shwe, went to the 5 day market in the centre
* spent the day on Inle Lake (we hired our own boat / driver for 30,000 kyat (£15)
* cycled to the Hot Springs (which was a huge disappointment and turned out to be an outdoor, public swimming baths!) caught a boat from Khaung Daing to Maine Thanku, cycled back to Nyuang Shwe
* hired a private guide and went on a trek into the hills and had lunch at a locals house and then trekked back via the Red Mountain Wine Estate (of-course had to have a tasting)
* had a relaxing pampering session at Aqua Lillies, a three hour session for around £20, the best salon in Nyuang Shwe by a long way...

Best places to eat / drink;
* cocktails at Asiatico
* local food at Thanaka Garden, Live Dim Sum (where they served great Expresso Martinis too) and Sin Yaw (our favourite)
* best place to stay Blue Vanda

We absolutely adored Myanmar, people are wonderful, it’s safe, it’s not touristy and still a very authentic travelling experience. Wish we didn’t have to leave, can’t wait to come back!
