10/4/18 - Day 73
Sleeping really well here, nice and dark in the the room in the morning. Got up and did a power yoga class and then made my way up to meet J at breakfast. We then made our way to Cheong Fatt Tze’s Mansion, one of China’s first capitalists who left China when he was 16 with no skills or trade as such and made his fortune, decided to build a mansion in Penang. The tour was wonderful, delivered by a lovely Malaysian lady called Pat, she’s been doing the tours since the renovation were completed 10 years ago and is just as enthusiastic today I suspect as she was at the start! The mansion is amazing. even the floor tiles were transported from Stoke on Trent. Once we’d finished looking around we walked to catch the free shuttle bus that takes you around George Town and wound up doing our own street art tour which was great and took us into some interesting places, including an antique emporium come dog sanctuary in Love Lane.
I do love George Town, it really reminds me of Cuba (although Cuba obviously doesn’t have the British colonial influence that GT has) but I absolutely adore the people, so friendly and most speak brilliant English, On the way back we stop off at Seven Terraces which is another beautiful hotel owned by the same group that owns the Muntri Grove where we’re staying. On the way back I’m tempted to stop in for a reflexology session (there are masses of places to have massage or treatments in GT) but I decide to go back another time, just as well as we only just make it back to our hotel in time as the heavens open. A great big thunder storm for the next few hours....
I’m very smitten with George Town...❤️ it’s a great fusion of Chinese and an Indian and the Malays are such lovely, warm people.

Getting my free chi and admiring the view in the open air courtyard. According to Pat, our guide, this is the central point in the Mansion for chi!
