Las Teresitas beach
Santa Cruz:
Why not spend a day in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital city! Start your day with a hearty breakfast to prepare your stomach for a day of exploration. The capital has all the usual high street joints that you’d expect, but we recommend ducking into one of the many side street cafes for a real taste of Tenerife. Most places serve up a wide range of seafood alongside Spanish omelettes (classic) or arepas - South American-style corn cakes served with a variety of toppings (mucho delicioso!)
A stroll by the sea:
Tenerife has dozens of beautiful beaches, including 10 Blue Flag winners. We recommend checking out Playa de las Teresitas in Santa Cruz, a sheltered man-made beach made with sand imported from the Sahara Desert (usually very busy). If you’d prefer something a bit more secluded there are a number of beaches away from the tourist crowds, with Playa Bollullo, Playa del Pozo and Playa El Puertito all providing opportunities for a relaxing stroll.
Whale of a time:
A whale watching tour is a must-do for nature lovers visiting Tenerife. The waters around the island are home to bottlenose and risso dolphins, sperm whales and pilot whales with other species such as killer whales, turtles and sharks also making an occasional appearance. Tours are available from various locations around the island and cost between 20 and 60 euros, depending on how long you head out for.
On top of the world:
The famous volcano Mount Teide is the highest peak in Spain and the surrounding national park is a World Heritage Site – both totally must-see attractions for your visit. Take a cable car to the base of the volcano’s summit and enjoy breathtaking views of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma.
Whilst there, make sure to visit the Teide Observatory, the world’s largest solar observatory and one of the best places for stargazing in the Canary Islands, and on the planet!
Always playing the classics:
Enjoy an amazing day at the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Mártin, for a dose of classical music from the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife. The auditorium is one of Spain’s most famous examples of modern architecture and hosts concerts, events and exhibitions year-round.
Before the show starts, be sure to devour some delicious island cuisine. Fish is on the menu everywhere and we recommend trying the popular viejas (comb-toothed blennies) or seabream, with a side order of papas arrugadas (wrinkly potatoes), which are cooked with lots of salt and are really (REALLY) moreish.

Grab yourself a booth in one of Santa Cruz’s many side street bars and tour Tenerife through its local wines. Tenerife is home to the highest elevation vineyards in Europe and its five wine-making regions turn out some of the most highly-rated reds and whites in the world.
