Dubrovnik

Croatia, 17. September 2018
Dobro jutro,

It was another quiet morning for me, everyone else needed a few hours to gather themselves after the 4am wake up. I thought perkiness wasn’t an attribute but after those non-morning people needing time to adjust I now realise I’m lucky. Ain’t nothing bringing me down.

We had a short flight to Athens we gained 15mins on the flight time and we arrived early. It was very lucky because we had to go through customs and security again and by the time we got to our gate we were all boarding. Our plane from Athens to Dubrovnik was a plane for ants, absolutely tiny. We got to Croatia and that was all that matters.

We landed at 9am and our apartments are all only booked in from 2pm. Thankfully the others had used the same apartments last time they were here so they contacted the owner and we got to store our baggage until check in. We have all 4 apartments in the same street only a few doors down from each other. Our friend’s Nadia and Justin couldn’t make the trip so we ended up having a spare apartment. If anyone is in the doghouse while we are here at least they have somewhere to sleep aha.

We are staying in old town and walked around the streets. It is such an old city and so amazing to stay in a fortified city. It is so beautiful. It is also extremely hot with all the limestone everywhere. It just traps the heat right in. It is very busy inside the city walls with tours being held constantly since the tv show Game of Thrones and the movie Star Wars shot scenes within old town.

We killed our time until 2pm and all checked in. Our owner Ivan was very interesting and told us some history of Dubrovnik and the building we are staying in. It is over 500 years old, just amazing! Ivan also picked up on the Erceg surname and traced it back for us. The others all needed to snooze so Matt and I headed out to explore some more and ended up in a beer garden sipping on local produce. We headed back to see if anyone was up and make some plans for dinner. Nicole and Mike decided to stay in and the rest of us went and found some delicious gelato before dinner. We got distracted by the sights and found some backgrounds from Game of Thrones so took some pictures and by the time we went back to the restaurant we had picked for dinner there was a longest queue. We had our hearts set on this restaurant so we waited the 30/40 minutes to be seated. We got some free liqueur after and strolled back to the apartment after. I am just so in awe of this city. It truly is beautiful. Matt is finding it hard to enjoy it with so many people crammed into the small walls, fingers crossed for tomorrow.

P.s I thought we were done with steps. This is the worst for steps. So steep too. Fit as fiddles after here.

Doviđenja!
