SYDNEY
After about 24 hours of flying, plus being at the airport on time, checking in , waiting for the full, waiting for our bags after the flight and so on, we finally arrived at our hotel in Sydney after being on the road for over 30 hours.
However, we just could not find our hotel, which is why we have to add another hour on it. We stayed at the Grand Hotel, which was a three star hotel. We were so tired that we almost fell asleep in the lobby, and as soon as we were in our rooms, we all just fell in our bed and slept right into the next afternoon.
In the evening we were heading for nice digesting walk around the circular quay, which was very nice. What we all found very cool and funny were the random placed palms, which were just standing there in the city. If you’re from Germany like us, palms are just not that regular and now there standing in the middle of the city.
Since we all weren’t feeling so well, because of the drastic climate and time change, our bodies were super confused and exhausted.
That’s why we just chilled in the hotel, went to the beaches and had a great time on the second and third day. The beaches of Sydney are just lovely. Theres white sand and the clearest water. But most important, there are waves, you just need to find the right places. Luckily Jules old kindergarden-friend moved to Sydney when he was six years old. And Jules and his Mom stayed in touch, so that we asked him to do us the favor to show us the basics of surfing. It was just super fun, but to be honest, surfing is not half as easy as it looks. But after those days of relaxing and surfing, which was defenseless a highlight for all of us, we all agreed that we needed a bit of adventure, so we searched for some interesting things to do in Sydney. And trust us on this one, there’s a lot to do.
We were starting the fourth day with a delicious breakfast. There were so many delicious delicacies that we could not decide. Luise immediately took so much from everything, so that Jule, Tolga and Liv had to eat from her bowl as well and still everyone was completely full afterwards. There were different types of juices, bacon, scrambled eggs, cereals and lot‘s of more.
we decided to take a ferry from the ferry Harbour who took as straight to Watson By. You get a fantastic view from the Watson By, which we all enjoyed. We could look directly at the opera house and the Tasmanian sea. It was wonderful! But we thought the view would have been even more beautiful in the evening, when it just starts to dawn and you can see the lights at night. When we arrived on the other side, we were all hungry and luckily we had sneaked some food at breakfast so that we could eat, without needing to buy anything. Because the prices are unbelievable.
On the second half of the day we had a tour planned, so we had to hurry up to be on time. The tour started at the Opera House, so we just had to sprint a little bit. And now the funny part, we all forgot that we are actually in Australia, so our tour guide was obviously an total Aussie. So we need to be honest with you, we all just briefly understood the half of what the guide said, but he seemed like a real friendly guy. Just like most of the people we met on that day. The opera house is Sydney's landmark. The building dates back to the 20th century and the architecture refers to expressionism. It is said to be the centre for performing arts and really everyone who is in Sydney must visit the opera house. So we went to the opera house after the tour and it was worth it. Afterwards we went back to the harbour by ferry and it was getting dark. And then you could see the wonderful evening lights and it was really just beautiful. But after that we were really tired so we took the metro and when we arrived at the hotel we went straight to bed.
On our last day, we decided to go to the Rocks in any case. However, we got up early in the morning to pack straight away. That took half an eternity. We had to leave the hotel room at 11am. However, we were kindly allowed to leave all our luggage in the lobby under supervision and only took our most important things with us. We walked along the waterfront in search of a bakery. Since it was already 1 pm and we hadn't eaten anything yet, we each got an Aussie sanwich sausage and skipped breakfast. The Rocks is a neighbourhood of historic laneways in the shadow of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We strolled through the alleys and had a good look at everything and also bought little things. It wasn’t a disappointment. We spend the rest oof the evening there, because there was just a great Atmosphere and we also met some nice aussies who showed us around. Overall we all love Sydney! So it‘s definitely a „I‘ve been there“-place.
And suddenly it was 9 pm and we quickly drove to the hotel, grabbed our stuff and then traveled three hours threw the evening and night to Canberra.
