Day 1 & 2 - and just like that, we’re off again… the 50 somethings next adventures. It’s only been 5 years since our last back packing adventure. We were both feeling slightly apprehensive, yet excited. We drove from Devon to Winchester to leave the car at Matt & Marie-Louise’s,they very kindly gave us a whistle stop tour of Winchester, which was lovely and we’ll definitely be back.
Matt dropped us at the bus station (I promise I won’t mention the car! 😘) although J was feeling decidedly peaky. It was not a good sign that the coach was also half an hour late and we were both very cold by the time it arrived. Made it to Heathrow although J feeling really rough by the time we arrived, another bad sign… the poor chap nearly threw up over a cleaning lady in T2, he’s now looking really bad and we can’t decide whether to get on the flight to Bangkok but we do… He does his best to get as comfortable as he can with his tall frame in an Economy seat, yes we really were slumming it at the back. We did try to upgrade but no chance as business was fully booked. This was definitely going to be a long night… sick bags at the ready. Perhaps not such a great idea to travel on Friday 13th after all!! By some miracle we made it through the night without any sudden dashes although he really does look so poorly. We landed in Bangkok at around 4pm and then waited over an hour for his rucksack which surprise, surprise didn’t materialise. You could not make this up. When we enquired we were advised that it was still floating around LHR! Eventually we manage to find our pre booked car and finally arrived at the hotel somewhere around 6.30. Continued on 14th Jan…
