Koh Ngai
After breakfast (ok) we walked the length of the island (approx 3 miles) and back, we took out a kayak with snorkelling gear and I got in and snorkelled whilst J stayed on the kayak, not much to report on the snorkelling front but after some world class diving last week it’s not surprising. it was pretty choppy. We kayaked to the end of the occupied part of the island, discovered a completely shut up hotel. Kayaked back, showered and then some yoga on our terrace, which was lovely. We strolled next door to the campsite that has a beach / bar restaurant and took up residence there for a bit. Then back for an early night, all this activity has nicely tired is out, we both love it here.
Sat 28th
Nice and sunny to start with, breakfast on the beach, earlier today 😘. We set off walking up the beach again and navigating our way round the island (you can’t really get lost, although it’s pretty jungly). We wanted to make our way over to the other side of the island to find Paradise Beach. The walk took us through a resort and just as we were leaving the main drag we came across a huge Monitor Lizard, the locals refer to them as crocodiles, it was enormous!! Fortunately it had breakfast in its sights and luckily it wasn’t me (they are poisonous and capable of killing a small dog apparently). We finally hit the jungle path and off we went. Bumped into a French couple who took one look at my footwear and laughed, they said, don’t stop whatever you do you’ll be eaten alive by mosquitoes. Not deterred we carried on. Made it over to the other side of the island (think the Frenchies were being a tad dramatic) to discover another empty resort (Paradise Beach Resort), with immaculate looking bungalows and the most gorgeous, uninhabited beach. Just so sad… anyway we dived straight into the turquoise waters, went swimming and then dried off on the beach, real Robinson Crusoe style beach, just simply gorgeous. If only we’d had a machete handy for those coconuts. Stayed there for a few hours and then walked back, now some reading, relaxing and yoga. I could get used to this…😘
Sunday 29th
More relaxation, we walked to the end of the beach, had a massage on the way back…treated to a fly by from a cluster of Hornbills, magical.
Monday 30th
Nice early morning yoga practice, thanks to Lou! After breakfast, we walked to Paradise Beach again, snorkelled, swam, relaxed and then trekked back through the jungle and along our beach… my book and a hammock is now calling.
Tuesday 31st Jan
We decide to walk around to the other side of the Island to a totally private beach. It’s quite a walk but worth it, we have it to ourselves and we’ve taken snorkelling gear so we happily spend time alternating between snorkelling and lying on the beach. We walk back to our hotel late afternoon and then a final supper in the restaurant, very lovely. This place is going to be hard to leave…
