Coron

Philippines, 28. February 2023
Monday 27th Feb

After another night of no sleep, basically the Tree House was lovely BUT the fellow American guests were not, they kept us awake partying until at least 2am. Despite my best efforts; complaining to the staff, using my headphones and sleep meditations, it was not happening. Despite our booking being for 2 nights J and I decided to book another hotel back in Coron so we spent a bit of time finding an alternative. Went for a walk (or rather dragged myself) to a nearby waterfall and then back to pack up and leave. We climbed onto the motorbike, flooded with relief, got to the top of the dirt road and then hit by the biggest downpour. Back to Sancturia Treetop (maybe someone doesn’t want us to leave) to shelter and dry out. Absolutely soaked. Eventually the rain stopped and we tried again, everything was pretty soggy by the time we reached Coron and our next hotel. It was a welcome relief as we could unpack our wet gear and dry off by the pool. It was perfect, just what I needed straight after the dive trip. J only booked the Sancturia Treehouse place because I’d heard from one of my fellow divers that it was good (and it would have been had it not been for our partying fellow travellers). You live and you learn…and you have to let live!

Tuesday 28th Feb

Stayed at Charms Hotel in Coron Town. Nice and quiet, decent shower, just what we needed after yesterday. Awake early so read for a bit (sadly the room is tiny so no space to roll out my mat). After breakfast (not a culinary highlight), we wrote a few obligatory postcards and headed to the post office. On the way, we found a shop that sold cashew nuts and were invited into the ‘factory’ below the shop for a tour. Basically the tour consisted of a woman sitting on a bucket and shelling cashew nuts, it was all a bit vague after that in terms of the process. Anyway it was a fun, impromptu tour that lasted about 5 minutes, I didn’t even get chance to take photos! Popped back to the shop upstairs and bought a small bag for our boat trip tomorrow. Eventually arrived after about 20 mins at the PO. You’ve never seen anything like it, a little shop in a backstreet run by a little old chinaman. He only had 1 php stamps and you need 35 to send to the U.K., not leaving any space to write on the card, hilarious. He said to come back on Friday but of course we’ll be on a boat bound for El Nido by then. We then popped into the oldest coffee shop in Coron, they don’t do decaf so I settled for a fresh lemon and ginger tea (even that appears laced with sugar!!) 🥲 back to pack up and move AGAIN back to Sunlight Guest hotel, jumped on the motorbike and motored to the opposite end of the bay where the hotel is. An hour or so by the pool then a spot of yoga, then out for dinner somewhere and back to pack up for our boat trip to El Nido. Need to decant stuff into one water proof bag… 3 hotels in the last 3 days plus not a huge amount of sleep and I’m pooped. Off tomorrow 1st March to El Nido, via a three day, two night boat trip so off line until Saturday night…
