Tuesday 10th

I think I kept J up all night because of my coughing, sadly I’m still not any better (and the docs have been in touch to say my blood tests are abnormal, not much I can do about that from here!). Anyway, the alarm went at 6.30 and we peeked out into the dark to see more rain… we didn’t quite know what to do but by the time it started getting light the rain eased off a bit so we decided to make a run for it to the jetty. We waited for quite some time but eventually our boat left at 8.15 and off we went to Redang Island. I loved the captains head gear, but worryingly the one crew member kept crossing himself (it was a very bumpy ride but only 45 mins so bearable).

Checked straight in and we’ve been upgraded to a lovely suite with fabulous views out to see from the hot tub / spa bath. This will be a great place to recover!

Spent our first day napping and playing a card game (Jaipur) as weather was very monsoon like!

Wednesday 11th

Slept ok but awake in the middle of the night listening to waves… drifted back and then J woke me up to go to breakfast. All very lovely… weather much better so we wander about the beach, which we have all to ourselves. Find a spot and just relax (I’m
still really unwell, 3 weeks now!!). Listening to an audio book which I’m really in to at the moment and then we have to drag ourselves away as the Manager has invited us out to on a trip around to the mangroves so off we pop. The staff are all amazing and can’t do enough to make sure that we’re happy with everything, I can’t rate them highly enough. Although I suspect they think we’re hotel inspectors because I doubt many Brits venture here. Fabulous fruit bats and free swimming monitor lizards in the mangroves, once back we’re straight into a private yoga class with Bruce, who is lovely. Fantastic views out from the studio over the ocean and a nice easy flow for a sickly person (me) and an inflexible person(J).

Once showered, it’s more card games with pre-dinner drinks and then a lovely Malay curry.

Thursday 12th

More of the same I suspect, I’ll be kicking off with an 8am session with Bruce and then if I feel better some weights using the rustic beach / jungle gym.

Friday 13rg & Saturday 14th

Both days pass in a bit of a blur, the hotel is so quiet… I think we’re down to about 6 guests including us now… We get a few hours when it’s not raining and we head out and walk or spend time on the beach reading. We’re both still recovering from our respective ills. I have private yoga sessions with Bruce daily but generally it’s all about taking it easy. Staff have all been amazing and cannot do enough for us.

Sunday 15th

We are leaving the Shining Hotel…! Up early to catch the boat at 8am back to KT…. The boat journey is fine but lumpy in places. We then catch a taxi back to KT airport (which is probably like Bristol airport in size but there is nothing there, it’s also eerily quiet as the first flight out of the day is ours and it’s not until 5pm! We’re flying back to K, Fortunately Taaras (aka Shining Hotel) have an airport lounge so we’re in there all day apart from when we’re both doing circuits of the airport to keep our steps up! Flight all on time fortunately and back at KLIA at around 7, we decide to grab food at the airport as we’re staying in a transit hotel so eat, grab a grab car and arrive at our transit hotel (nothing worthy of mention but it was fine). Flying to Langkawi tomorrow at 10am so due back at the airport around 8.
