An iced coffee to start the day is always the way! Up early today for the floating village
No one else had signed up to the tour so I had Pip, the tour guide, all to myself which was great and I learnt so much. We started off by going to a local market and seeing how some of the food is cooked. Here the ladies are smoking fish. All the locals were so friendly and happy
We then went to the floating village. Although it is not floating at the moment, by November it will be 10,000km with water. No bikes, cars or transport other than boats will be used. Kids will need to use boats to get to school. All buildings are built on stilts of wood so that they can be held up
You can see below there are stilts on this house at the bottom
All of this street will be filled with water during rainy season
Pip took me into a local English school where children can go for free, 1 hour a day to learn English. The kids were so sweet and all took turns in asking me questions in English. I then read out different animals, colours and numbers to them and they all repeated them back🥹
I found out that if anyone in the community wants to do anything (I.e., get married, divorced, go to work) they have to ask the commune leader who will then approve or deny, a strange system. But one that is difficult when it’s floating as they have to get to the commune via boat
Being driven around some of the places which are already floating. This lady was actually really friendly despite her face here
The sign 🥺
Some floating restaurants. Lots of fishermen around here already prepping for the rainy season. Each household is allocated their own area to fish in by the commune leader. It was at this point I felt so grateful for my life I have at home❤️
Caged crocodiles was a bit strange…
Back to the hostel and had a nap. Got a Cambodian curry from the hostel which was delicious and then signed up for a countryside sunset with the hostel. This is my fav hostel so far, everyone is so nice and Ive met so many lovely people here
There was 8 of us who did the sunset tour. It was beautiful and so chilled. Am and Alice the hostel workers bought us some beers and Cambodian snacks
Back and showered and out in the pub crawl. Met Lucy who I was with in Koh sdach and her friend Ondre from Czech. We had a great time
Pub street was great - we went to three bars and danced a lot
With reane and Am - such great, lovely and wholesome people ❤️
