Berlin

Germany, 28. June 2017
Schloss Bellevue. The Bellevue Palace is a white palatial home of the German president with 3 wings built in 1786. I don't stop but the bus does, allowing a perfect opportunity to grab this photo.
Wednesday 28th - Day 4
It's another conference day so I'm still by myself on day 4. I decide that today is the day to get further afield than just walking can take me. Actually I could probably walk it but then I would limit what I could do in that period of time. It's a beautiful day with clear blue skies and I start at a reasonable time - this means the sun is not so high in the sky and it will allow some good photos if in the right direction.
So I head to the Anhalter Bahnhof station, buy a day ticket @ 7 Euros for unlimited travel in zones A and B. The S-Bahn gets me to the Brandenburger Tor real quick, a couple nice photos of the Tor and Reichstag and then I stop at a Pavillion cafe opposite the Reichstag for croissant and coffee-not worth it. 30 mins later I catch the 100 bus in the direction of Zoologischer Garten.

After my stop in the Tiergarten I'm back on the 100 bus and stay with it until it reaches the Zoologischer Garten bus depot. I get of the bus at the last stop and decide to eat lunch in McDonalds - why? because I just want to sit a little, relax, maybe enjoy some AC and wifi. but no wifi however I do relax and read.

2 minutes later I'm past the Victory Column and out of the park. I overestimated the number of stops so walk back through the Tiergarten towards the column.
The 59m-high gilded column commemorates victory in the Prussian-Danish war and sits within a large 5 way roundabout inside the Tiergarten. The 8.3m bronze statue of Victoria was added to recognise the Austro-Prussian and Franco-Prussian War victories.
As I exit the pedestrian tunnel and head to the bus stop I stumbled upon this statue - Bismarck-Nationaldenkmal - dedicated to Prince Otto von Bismarck, Minister President of the Kingdom of Prussia and the first Chancellor of the German Empire.
After lunch I walk back the 100m or so to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche. This is a photo of a photo from around 1900s. An impressive church that became a issue of debate t for many Berliners as society moved through the early 20th century.

I then journeyed out to Schloss Charlottenburg. Many Friedrich's lived here from Friedrich I (King of Prussia) to Friedrich Wilhelm IV.
The main structure, Altes Schloss, was built between 1695 & 1713.
Der Neuer Flügel or the New Wing.

After Mandy had finished her day at the conference we went out. Our first stop was at the BRLO Brwhouse just a few hundred metres from the Crowne Plaza. A great tasting German IPA for Paul before we headed back to the area surrounding the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche for dinner and a small wander around.
