Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer
Steetlife
We took a taxi to go from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer so we saw the landscape changing in the window very fast from dry to desert. After a four hour drive we arrived in Jaisalmer, a desert city 60 km away from the border to Pakistan and the gate to the thar desert.
Our guesthouse ist located in the heart of the city, the jaisalmer fort. It’s an 450 year old very, very beautiful haveli. Our host Omji welcomed us very warm and friendly with a masala chai and told us a lot about his house, himself and Jaisalmer. He is a brahmin and teaches the kids of Jaisalmer in school.

Walking around in Jaisalmer we explored the most beautiful havelis and palaces we had seen in hole Rajasthan. Almost each building has wonderful created ornaments which are hundreds of years old. Most of them are made of a light yellow sandstone. Lots of tourist are visiting Jaisalmer with its 50.000 inhabits, and the fort itself changed to a huge bazar during the last 20 years. Tourists are asked to use as little water as possible cause the sewage system in the fort is very old and the masses of water used by the tourists will damage the forts fundaments. With this knowledge we tried to use as little as we could.
