/ Argentina-Uruguay-Chile
We took a flight from Chiloé to Punta Arenas (make sure you sit on the left side of the plane - what a scenic flight!) and rented a car and camping equipment to be as flexible as possible to discover southern Patagonia.
It was a good decision: waking up right in the middle of Patagonia's breathtaking nature is priceless! Well, even in summer, it still can get pretty cold at night ... we put on all our clothes and had our drinking bottles filled with hot water in our sleeping bags to stay as warm as possible. But it's absolutely worth it! The beauty of Patagonias' nature is beyond words and it's hard to restist taking pictures all the time :)
During high season most of the hostels and refugios (Torres del Paine) are booked out and to sleep in your own tent is the best bet to stay flexible: imagine having booked your rooms along the hiking trails in Torres del Paine National Park - and end up having to do the hike through rain & strong winds to not lose your bed for the next night and not seeing much of the scenery because it's all covered in mist and clouds...
We admit: we gave up after two nights and followed the weatherforecast up to the Argentinian part of Patagonia ... but we returned after a week and the weather couldn't have been better.
