Punta Arenas was planed as a short stop on our way to Ushuaia. But it was more difficult than expected to get a place in a bus; so we had to stay a couple of days in Punta Arenas. We did a two days trip to Porvenir on Tierra de Fuego to see the King Pinguins and it's really not easy to get to those adorable guys if you don't have your own car. First we took the ferry to Porvenir, then we managed to find a small non public bus company, that runs a service from Porvenir to Vicuña twice a week, and offered to drop us close to the parc. After a two hours ride early in the morning on a very dusty gravel road, we arrived at the Parque Pingüino Reys and waited for 2 more hours for the park to open. But it's absolutely worth it! The small penguin colony has been discovered not long ago. To protect the adorable king penguins from people getting too close and disturb them, the parc was installed. It is pretty small, close to nature and only 10-20 people are allowed to enter at once. So its been perfect that we arrived early, sharing a coffee with other travellers before the parc opened and then were able to enjoy watching the penguins without any hassle or noise from big groups.

1:1 Replicas of four famous ships in chilenean history, built by an enthusiastic ships lover. E.g. Magallan's famous ship, which was the first ship sailing around the world - pretty impresive to get on board and imagine how the sailors crossed oceans and survived icy storms on a ship like this centuries ago!
