/ Northern Vietnam Diary
We arrived Sapa around 6:00 am in the morning. I noticed that the bus stopped a few time and they even washed the bus at 4:00 am. Is it necessary?! LoL. However, I am glad that we arrived after sunrise. The bus stopped at Sapa Garden Bungalow. It’s about 15 minutes walk to our hotel ‘Mimosa.’
If you have been to Kalaw, Shan State, Myanmar, the atmosphere is the same. The weather was just cool. The town is located in hilly region. It’s ok to walk with backpack, but if you have the luggage with wheel, you better call a taxi. This is one of the restaurant on the way to our hotel.
We stayed at Mimosa Hotel which is just behind the tourist attraction street. It costed 370,000 VDN (65 RM) per night for two people. The room was clean. The facility was basic. We used night bus and night train to save travel time. We paid an extra fees for early check in and late check out.
This must be the center of the town. There are more hotels which have higher ranking around this area. You can see a lot of tourist and local people in the evening.
Since I stepped Vietnam land, I woke up with Vietnamese coffee and slept with Vietnamese beer.
Vietnamese coffee is very strong in small amount. I like to have it with ice even in the early morning.
While we were having our breakfast at BB cafe, some local ladies approached to sell the handmade goods. We don’t really need it but this is how they earn. I think we should buy some stuff. (They are not cheap but more expensive at souvenir shops.)
This is my first meal without rice noodle since I came. My impression for Sa Pa is a local town but food is expensive compared to Hanoi.
This the a street just behind the Ng. Cầu Mây Street (tourist attraction). The streets are clean and building are pretty.
First day in Sa Pa, we went Ma Tra and Ta Phin Village half-day trekking tour. My expectation of a trekking tour is in the forest on the ground.
But it’s more like a village walk on concrete road. As a Burmese, I didn’t enjoy it. But you can rent a motor bike to finish the tour quick.
We stopped here for the lunch. The package included the lunch. They have a small souvenir shop and you can buy some handmade items. Don’t forget to negotiate the price.
They prepared all food very freshly. The food was very tasty. I noticed that the spring roll in Sa Pa is different from Hanoi. The rice paper is very thin.
