United Kingdom, Mersea, Coast Road

United Kingdom, 06. July 2024
What a night! Seemed as though rain, hail and wind were coming from all directions. Very noisy, with everything not tied down rattling, and rain finding its way in everywhere. We were looking forward to going ashore on the launch.
Poppy learning the ropes on the launch.
Still raining on shore, so a warm walk in our sailing wet weather gear to Bea and Paul’s for lunch - via the Co-op for provisioning.
A delicious BBQ indoors, and then the sun came out!
Great to catch up.
A windy, but warm (and dry - yippee!) walk back along the beach.
This house and shed look as though they’re going to be demolished to make way for flats on the shoreline - unless they fall down first.
Feeling a little like summer.
The site of St Peter’s Well. For over a 1,000 years this was one of the main water sources for the village.
To commemorate the centenary of the end of WWI in 2019, 51 steel soldiers and sailors were erected at the Strood. They represent the men from the island who lost their lives. They were sold at an auction in 2020, and most have found homes on Mersea.
The houseboats having often been ‘extended’ and most have parking places.
The hammerhead, waiting to pick up the launch.
Watching the match between England and Switzerland…
…and celebrating the win.
Another beautiful sunset, and a calm evening listening to Amor Towles ‘The Lincoln Highway’.
